        注：begin 和 start 有时可以通用，如上面的第二句与第三句。即使可以互换，它们含义的侧重点也有所不同。某过程的停止实际上是"结束"，这时应当用 end.
　　The dream he had had for so many years ended there.

　　注：end 可用作名词。
　　Here is the end of the railway.

　　作为名词的 end，其反义词为 beginning.另外，begin 与 start 还有一个常用的同义词 commence.
　　这个词与 begin 的词义几乎没有差别，只是 commence 为正式用语，而 begin 却非常普通。法律、宗教活动或战争中的大战役比较庄严，在需要表示"开始"时应当用 commence.
　　而 commence 的反义词为 conclude，这两动词的相应名词分别为 commencement 和 conclusion.处于运动中的物体的停止，实际上是"由动到静"，这时应当用 stop.
